Maple frames and logo reflect Scandinavian influence

Project Interior, Exterior and Donor Recognition Sign Program, Scandinavian Living Center, West Newton, Massachusetts

Before its renovation and expansion, the Swedish Home was a sleepy nursing-care facility in an old manor house, surrounded by an abundance of open and buildable land. By combining resources with a Norwegian nursing home, and other Scandinavian civic groups, a new vital living center was created with 40 independent apartments, a dramatic Nordic Hall, and a traditional "Kaffe Stuga" that is accessible to the public. Whitney Veigas designed, supplied, and installed a program of interior, exterior, and donor recognition signs for this project. We used Alumigraph, our interior sign system, in a custom cream background color, with surface printed, and raised tactile lettering. Signs at major destinations were mounted on maple backers in a natural finish. The stylized Viking dragon head added a unique graphic accent to the signs. Donor plaques at each residence unit were etched and infilled satin bronze plates mounted on standard Alumigraph holders.
