Project Interior and Exterior Sign Program, YMCA of Greater Boston

Whitney Veigas was retained by the YMCA of Greater Boston to design, supply, and install a program of interior and exterior signs for several area branches. Our mandate was to develop a program that would meet the functional sign requirements of each location in a consistent manner, that would express a high level of design-sensitivity, and that could be implemented within the budget established at the beginning of the project.

We used Alumigraph, our modular system, for all interior signs, because of its modest cost, and changeability. A collection of custom-designed symbols was also developed and used to identify major destinations within the branch. Many of the branches serve multi-lingual members, and the extensive use of graphic symbols throughout these facilities was very beneficial.

The exterior sign system used colorful, applique banners, red neon lettering, and halo-lit reverse channel logos to prominently display the distinctive YMCA identity.
