Design goes beyond appearance
Design Factors
Whitney Veigas recognizes four factors when designing a sign program. These are function, aesthetics, cost, and technology. An effort is made to find a balance between all four factors. Each factor is described below as a series of questions:
Function Are the correct number of signs included and are they placed at the appropriate locations? Are the signs readable in terms of contrast and the size of the type selected? Can the messsage be changed without replacing the entire sign where revisions are frequent? Do the signs meet the local, state, and federal regulations?
Aesthetics Are the colors and materials used compatible with those at the building? Is there a logo that can be incorporated into the design? Does the typestyle chosen relate properly to the building design?
Cost Does the total sign program cost meet the buyer's budget? Are the materials and finishes durable, so as to extend the life of the signs?
Technology Has technology been used that enables a quality product to be achieved at a reasonable cost?
