Whitney Veigas and the designer
Implementation Options
There are three basic methods of implementing a sign program. Each involves a different role for the program designer and Whitney Veigas:
Competitive Bid The architect or designer prepares bid documents for the sign program. These should include drawings, specifications, and a list of required signs. Whitney Veigas is available to provide some technical assistance prior to biding. This method is well-known, and i s commonly used. In order to obtain meaningful bids, it is important that the bid documents be complete.
Negotiated Contract Whitney Veigas plays an active role in providing the architect or designer substantial technical and design information prior to bidding. This method allows the architect or designer to be in control of the project design, but reduces the time he or she must spend in preparing the bid documents. A contract for fabrication and installation is awarded to Whitney Veigas.
Design-Build Whitney Veigas is responsible for all phases of the sign program. Presentations are made to the owner, architect, or designer to obtain their input. Once the scope and general nature of the design is set, Whitney Veigas can provide a fixed price to the buyer. The design-build method can result in a savings of time and cost.
