Scope Design

Our work at Coakley Middle School in Norwood, MA, focused on the design of a cohesive signage and environmental graphics package tailored to the school’s newly constructed facility. The objective was to create a visual system that supports navigation, celebrates school spirit, and responds thoughtfully to the architectural environment.

We drew inspiration from the school mascot and the strong verticality of the building’s architecture, both of which shaped our design approach. The mustang was incorporated into several major areas, such as the exterior entryway with dimensional letters and logos, as well as in gathering spaces like the gymnasium, where bold graphics bring energy and foster camaraderie. The large-format graphics utilize a consistent vertical pattern and directional elements, echoing the building’s structural rhythm.

To aid in navigation and wayfinding, the graphic system used Coakley’s family of branded “team” colors throughout the signage, establishing a strong sense of identity, community, and place for students, staff, and visitors.
